The Finer Details

The Rhino nameplate dates back to the 1980s and is still used by the Japanese carmaker in other markets, including Malaysia and South Africa, where a special edition Jimny Rhino package adds a heritage-style grille, Rhino exterior decals, a rhino-branded soft spare wheel cover, red mud flaps and silver exterior garnishes.

In Australia it will be finished in the brand’s vivid Kinetic Yellow, rather than the white or silver hues used overseas.

“The Jimny community in Australia is thriving so yes, news of any new Jimny is hugely exciting,” Suzuki Australia general manager Michael Pachota said.

“But these are very capable, off-road vehicles. They navigate effortlessly in these outback conditions. The chances of someone getting close enough to take better images is low.”

Adding to the mystery, Suzuki said in a statement: “Where such a Jimny might have come from, and whether there might be more out there, is yet to be seen.”

The Road Ahead

“We’d obviously love to announce a completely new Jimny, particularly one that, if the reports are accurate, seems to be the perfect manifestation of the shared spirit of two magnificent beasts: Jimnys and rhinos. But we can’t confirm anything at this stage,” Pachota said.

The brand is “encouraging the amateur ‘Jimnologists’ in the Jimny-spotting community to continue reporting and sharing any suspected sightings” of the Jimny Rhino Edition in the lead up to its public debut.
