Jeep has revealed its SEMA centrepiece for 2015, the Wrangler Red Rock Concept... and it has inspired a limited-production edition for 2016.
Based on the Wrangler Rubicon 'Hard Rock', the Red Rock concept uses a wealth of Jeep and Mopar parts and pays tribute to the Red Rock 4-Wheelers off-road club, which organises an annual Easter Jeep Safari out of Utah.
It's a timely tribute as the club celebrates the 50th running of the event in 2016, with an off-road drive along the 'Behind the Rocks Trail'.
The Red Rock-influenced production vehicle will be individually numbered and limited to 50 units to further celebrate this anniversary.
"The annual Easter Jeep Safari remains one of the most significant events on any Jeep enthusiast's calendar," said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global. "We're extremely grateful to the Red Rock 4-Wheelers for continuing this iconic Jeep event, and we present our Wrangler Red Rock Concept as a tribute to them and the enthusiasts who attend the annual Jeep Safari and support our brand."
Wrangler Red Rock showcases the customisation potential of the Wrangler range by dipping into Mopar's aftermarket parts catalogue. Selected parts used in the concept will be available on the production machines.
The concept uses rugged next-generation Dana 44 solid axles, a Rock-Trac transfer case with 4.10 low-range ratio, Tru-Lok electronically-locking differentials and a special crawl ratio for manual transmissions.
A two-inch suspension lift kit, LED headlamps and fog lights, Warn Rubicon winch, front and rear diff covers, reinforced swing gate and wheel mount, gloss black 17-inch beadlock wheels with Granite Crystal bead lock rings and massive 35-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres add further hardcore hardware.
Outside a 'power dome' vented bonnet, off-road bumpers, redesigned rock rails and tow hooks to front and rear enhance the visual, which includes commemorative badging and a body coloured grille.
The inside, accessed without the inconvenience of doors on the concept, showcases a CB radio, Amaretto Brown Katzkin leather seats with silver stitching and Red Rock embroidered seat back logos, while a 'serialised' Red Rock grab handle plaque commemorates 50 years of the Easter Jeep Safari.
