Land Rover has commemorated its 60th anniversary this year. Newly acquired by Indian industrial conglomerate Tata -- along with another iconic British marque, Jaguar -- Land Rover appears set to notch up another 60 years, although for the time being at least, the company is a little distracted by past glories.
The Defender SVX is a limited production run model based on the standard Defender and styled to resemble the original Series I Land Rover of 1948. It does, however, boast a number of 2008 features such as satellite navigation, Recaro seats, leather-bound steering wheel and iPod compatibility.
Land Rover has equipped each of the 1800 units (with just 82 allocated for the Australian market) with a build plaque, decals, five-spoke alloy wheels, tubular side steps, reinforced front 'undershield', sunroof, heated seats, aluminium gear knob and a premium audio system. Land Rover will sell the Defender SVX for a price of $63,320.
"For those who want the ultimate Defender, the SVX special edition boasts an array of modern comforts and custom designed features, without compromising the vehicle's go anywhere capabilities," says Roger Jory, Land Rover Australia's General Manager.
"It's the ideal way to celebrate Land Rover's 60th birthday."
