LA MOTOR SHOW: Lamborghini to reveal rear-wheel drive Huracan

Italian car-maker will show off lighter, more extreme version of supercar. On sale as soon as 2016

Lamborghini, it has been revealed, will follow in the tyre tracks of its Gallardo by offering its customers a rear-wheel drive version of the Huracan supercar.

The model, expected to be called the Huracan LP 610-2 is expected to be offered as both a coupe and roadster, according to British mag, Autocar.

Expected to shave at least 50kg from the kerbweight the two-wheel drive Lamborghini will come with the same 5.2-litre V10, but could come with slightly more power than the four-wheel drive version’s 448kW/560Nm.

Despite that, traction issues means it will be unlikely to match the LP610-4’s 0-100km/h time of 3.2 seconds.

Instead, engineers will aim to provide a more exciting driving experience, possibly even going as far as drawing technical knowhow from the rear-wheel drive LP 620-2 Huracan Super Trofeo race car.

The rear-wheel drive Huracan is expected to be made in limited numbers. Lamborghini made just 250 of its Gallardo LP550-2 models.

Lamborghini will reveal more along with the car in two weeks’ time at the LA show.
