Firing back at the high-powered V8s in Holden's own stable, Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has launched three new limited edition models.
The models, the company says, are to celebrate the "unique 'race relations' link between (HSV and Holden Racing Team's (HRT)) on-track success and on-road success."
The arrival of the new 260kW 6.0-litre LS3 V8 in Holden's cooking model Commodore SV8 and SS (and others) has put the Lion's own performance arm under pressure to up the ante.
While it's not expected that HSV will significantly upgrade its LS2 V8's under-bonnet performance before the arrival of the new VE Commodore range later this year, the new models feature extra equipment and limited build numbers – both sources of success for the performance car arm in the past.
The three new limited edition models are: the Holden Racing Team Edition ClubSport; the Toll HSV Dealer Team ClubSport and the Mark Skaife Senator Signature Edition. Each is limited to 50 vehicles and, respectively, commemorates the last of the Z Series ClubSport and Senator series to roll off HSV's Clayton production line.
The HRT Edition ClubSport is finished in the race team's primary colour, Sting Red, and features white body accenting and five-spoke alloy wheels. The Toll car features orange details on Phantom Black. Its wheels are 'Iron Frost' five-spokers.
In addition to the bespoke paint, the six-speed manual ClubSports get model-specific decals, HSV Performance Suspension (as fitted to ClubSport R8 models), semi-competition Yokohama tyres and HSV’s Power Steering Oil Cooler kit. HSV's Premium Braking System is also fitted.
The Mark Skaife Signature Edition Senator also features Phantom Black paintwork with half of the vehicles upholstered in Light Reed Nappa style leather and the others featuring Anthracite Nappa hides.
The car gets the Z Series Senator Luxury Performance styling package, GTS-style bright grille mesh front and rear and ten-spoke, 19-inch alloy wheels. HSV's Premium Braking System is standard along with Xenon driving lamps and HSV’s onboard TPM (Tyre Pressure Monitoring) System.
The special edition cars are currently going down HSV's line and will hit dealers in around three to four weeks. Pricing is from $65,790 for the HRT and Toll ClubSport models with the Skaife Senator priced from $75,590.
