Holden is adding some spice to its Barina light-car range with a sporty new variant, the Barina RS.
Stock of the new model has arrived in Australia and Holden plans to commence retail sales before the end of the year, but the company is making no admission that it is the turbo-engined model outed by motoring.com.au a little over a week ago.  What the company has confirmed is that the Barina RS will feature 17-inch alloy wheels and a body kit with a larger rear spoiler, side skirts and revised aprons. Buyers will be able to order the car finished in a new colour exclusive to the Barina RS, Orange Rock (pictured). A sports steering wheel and RS-branded sports seats complete the ensemble.
Local engineers have apparently pounded the Barina RS around local roads and at the Lang Lang proving ground, notching up thousands of kilometres of testing. All those hours spent behind the wheel of the new car have resulted in chassis calibration tailored to suit the Australian environment and drivers' tastes. Holden is not saying what has been revised for Australian-spec cars, other than the electrically-assisted power steering.
The Barina RS goes on sale in November, and full details of the car's pricing and specification will be revealed then.
