Ford has introduced a revised Escape at the Adelaide Motor Show. As we reported previously (more here), the V6 engine has been dropped, leaving the Escape to continue with four-cylinder power, free of the Territory's cloying influence in the showrooms.
It also, potentially, removes any overlap between the Territory, Escape and the anticipated Mondeo wagon.
The new model is the ZD series, featuring a curvier look for the front panels, a revised specification and enhanced safety, including side-impact airbags and ABS/EBD.
Only one model variant is available in the new range and comprises the 2.3-litre four driving through the four-speed automatic transmission, priced below the specification equivalent in the superseded ZC range.
"We've made these changes to better differentiate between our two SUV model lines," said Mark Winslow, Ford's Vice-President of Marketing and Sales.
"There is now a clear-cut discernable difference between what Escape and Territory represent and what they offer our customers. The two models now complement each other in the showroom better than ever before."
Cosmetically, the new Escape can be identified by new new front fog lights, headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels (in a 10-spoke design), grille treatment, bumpers, wheel arch and door cladding, tailgate and rear tail lights. Ford has removed chrome trim pieces from the bonnet and tailgate. Secondary indicators are now located in the mirror shells.
Ambition Grey is the sole colour added to the palette, which continues to offer Hot Red, Panther Black, Moonlight Silver, Metallic Sand and Atlantis Blue from the ZC range.
Piano gloss burgundy trim is now specified for the centre console and door trims. Seats are trimmed in a new fabric, named Ellipse.
In capping off the changes for the Escape, Ford has also extended the list of standard features to include cruise control and climate control.
On sale from this month, the ZD Escaped is priced at $31,990.
