Audi will add to its range of turbodiesel passenger cars next week, with the launch at the 2005 Australian International Motor Show of a new TDI-engined version of its volume-selling A4.
Priced at $56,990, the new Audi A4 2.0 TDI will play the fuel consumption card. Says Audi, the seven-step Multitronic CVT transmission equipped 2.0 TDI boats a combined fuel consumption figure of 6.4lt/100km. The maker claims that with its 70-litre fuel tank the frugal A4 TDI is capable of close to 1100km between fills.
The A4 2.0 TDI claims maximum torque of 320Nm from 1750-2500rpm. Peak power is 103kW at 4000rpm. In UK-market trim the TDI despatches the 0-100km/h sprint in 9.8sec.
The equipment specification of the A4 2.0 TDI multitronic includes 16-inch alloy wheels, active front headrests, eight airbags, Servotronic power steering, power mirrors and DataDot microdot identification. Multifunction leather steering wheel and Chorus sound system with CD changer, ten speakers and 150W output are standard, as are cruise control, dual-zone climate control air and Volterra leather upholstery.
Audi Australia believes the new 2.0 TDI will account for around 15-20 per cent of A4 sales. The impressive A6 3.0 TDI currently accounts for more than 30 per cent of A6 sales.
