Aston Martin previews million-dollar V12 Speedster

Aston Martin has revealed its first teasing sketch of the wild V12 Speedster that's set to land at the beginning of 2021.

The single pic, released overnight, gives us our first look at the shape of the roofless, windscreen-less roadster that appears to be inspired not only by the original DBR1 racer but picks up where the 2013 Aston Martin CC100 left off.

Created by Aston Martin's bespoke Q division, the roadster is claimed to have been designed to "elegantly combine an authentic, driver-orientated sports car with the use of cutting-edge motorsport and aviation technology to deliver a stunning, two-seat enthusiast driving machine".

Instead of sporting huge spoilers backed by big boasts about lap times, the V12 Speedster has been engineered to dish up pure driving enjoyment.

Not that it won't be seriously fast.

Primed to go head-to-head with the McLaren Elva and the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 launched last year, the Aston Martin V12 Speedster will inherit its 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 from the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, so expect power to top 600kW.

Weighing around 100kg less than the coupe, the rear-drive roadster should hit 100km/h comfortably less than three seconds, even with its conventional eight-speed automatic 'box.

Aston Martin has already revealed it will make just 88 V12 Speedsters, with pricing expected to kick off at around £750,000 ($A1.45m).
