2026 Toyota HiLux reveal just days away

The new 2026 Toyota HiLux has been a long time coming, but the wait is almost over. The world's top-selling car brand has now confirmed the next-generation Toyota HiLux ute will make its global debut on Monday, November 10, 2025. The reveal will occur at 2:30pm (AEDT) and will beamed around the world via livestream on the Toyota Motor Thailand YouTube channel.

The 2026 Toyota HiLux will usher in a major update for Australia’s best-selling ute, blending fresh styling and a reworked interior with significant mechanical upgrades.

It's been talked about ad nauseum and soon we'll have more details and at the very least we'll know what it looks like.

HiLux spy shots and this latest visual tease confirm the new HiLux is more evolution than revolution.

There's a chance it could even be a comprehensive facelift of the current model that has underpinned Toyota’s one-tonne ute since 2015, rather than an all-new model using the brands more advanced TNGA underpinnings like the Prado.

Images from a preview video posted recently by Toyota's Thai arm shows slim LED daytime running lights, redesigned LED tail-lights, fresh alloy wheel designs and a nostalgic ‘TOYOTA’ script on the grille.

Leaked cabin schematics reveal a Prado-inspired dashboard complete with a larger infotainment touchscreen and digital instrument cluster.

Australian government approval documents suggest Toyota will streamline the engine line-up.

The 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol engine looks set for retirement, while the 2.4-litre diesel’s future remains uncertain.

Instead, Toyota may roll out its 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel across the range, with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance likely to extend beyond the current flagship grades.

Manual transmission and non-electrified versions have also received Australian homologation, pointing to a broad range of options for both fleet and private buyers.

Full specifications and local details will be confirmed when Toyota officially unveils the 2026 HiLux on November 10. Expect more powertrain clarity, expanded hybrid tech and possibly the first glimpse of Toyota’s electric future for the world’s favourite ute.

While the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger have been dueling it out as the top-selling ute in Australia for the past several years, the ute segment is hotting up as more Chinese brands enter the fray, keeping the old guard on their toes.

However, the most tantalising detail thus far is a presentation slide from the 2025 Tokyo motor show, which reveals a ‘BEV’ (battery electric vehicle) logo above the silhouette of what appears to be a HiLux. Is Toyota preparing a battery-electric version of its iconic ute? Watch this space.
