MG has struck back against Chery to reclaim the title of offering Australia’s cheapest SUV, having just returned the naturally aspirated ZS to its ranks from $22,990 drive-away… for now.

Its tenure at the top of the affordability field will be short-lived, however, given MG itself stipulates via its configurator that the industry-leading figure is temporary and will expire on February 28, at which point the ZS Vibe will revert to $24,351 drive-away.
Headline equipment on the budget base model includes 16-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with wired smartphone mirroring (both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), halogen headlights, cloth upholstery, keyless entry and start, a four-speaker sound system and adaptive cruise control.
The 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine hiding under the bonnet outputs 81kW/140Nm and drives the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT) – the punchier ZS Vibe gets a 125kW/275Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and CVT.

MG’s ‘celebration offer’ will wrap up on February 28 and when it does, the Chery Tiggo 4 Urban and Mahindra XUV 3XO will resume their seats as the SUV (low) price kings.
