The third generation of Mazda's BT-50 workhorse ute is even less disguised as a re-badged Isuzu D-Max than it was as a sightly-altered Ford Ranger. The driveline and suspension, and most of the body parts except for the very-Mazda grille - and, inside, the dash - are unashamedly Isuzu and that's not a bad thing. The BT-50 is doing quite nicely on the sales front. The range includes cab-chassis and ute versions, with either rear-drive or 4WD, manual or auto six-speed transmissions and two four-cylinder diesel engines: The 3.0-litre 140kW/450Nm stalwart and the entry 110kW/350Nm 1.9-litre.
