F171 Spider 2dr DCT 8sp 3.0TT/113kW Hybrid Ferrari's mid-engined supercars, the 296 GTB Coupe and 296 GTS Spider, are less interested in hybrid frugality than harvesting electrons in the pursuit of performance. The hybrid 3.0-litre V6 revs to 8500rpm and produces 488kW /740Nm to combine with a 122kW/315Nm electric motor for total 610kW. Ferrari claims 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds and a top speed north of 330km/h. The electric motor enables the 296 GTB to start and run silently for up to 25km and 135km/h. Although a V6 hybrid should have the aural character of a vacuum cleaner, Ferrari has somehow created a beautiful howl. The driving position is fantastic and the multi-multifunction steering wheel is an initial challenge.
