Although all will soon share their platforms with the latest 1 Series, only the Gran Coupe so far embraces BMW's new-epoch technology " which means front-drive or xDrive AWD formats are available. The coupe and convertible models continue with the same rear-drive structure and engine variants of the previous-generation 1 Series models. The Gran Coupe comes in front-drive 1.5-litre three-cylinder 218i (103kW/220Nm) or 2.0-litre four-cylinder 220i (141kW/280Nm) guise, or as a more punchy, AWD M235i xDrive with the same 225kW/450Nm 2.0-litre engine used in the M135i hatch.
