Mazda2s are up against the light segment-storming MG3, the Toyota Yaris and the Kia Rio with a model line-up " re-jigged at the end of 2019 " including Pure, Evolve (hatch only) and GT variants, all six-speed autos apart from the base manual-gearbox Pure version, all reliant on a 82kW/144Nm 1.5-litre engine. Safety tech includes autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane-keep assist and pedestrian detection. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is universal, while sat-nav comes in Evolve and GT " the latter also getting adaptive cruise control.
