Overview
M157 MY19 Wagon 5dr Spts Auto 8sp Q4 3.0TT (257kW) Maserati yielded to relentless market pressure in late 2017 when it introduced its first SUV, the five-seat Levante. Unthinkable a few years ago, here we have a hallowed Italian brand, once basically confined to racetrack fame, fronting up with an AWD "lifestyle" wagon " and even a 202kW/600Nm 3.0-litre V6 diesel " competing in a six-model range with the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne. But while it's practical and versatile, the Maserati Levante is also quick and capable: Even the base petrol model, extracting 257kW/500Nm from its Ferrari-built 3.0-litre turbo-petrol V6, will reach 100km/h in six seconds (5.2sec for 321kW/580Nm variants). Predictably, the Levante is now Maserati's Australian top-seller.
