Overview
Now in its fifth generation, the Land Rover Discovery has moved well away from its beginnings as a dumbed-down Range Rover. It does just about everything better than the original, on and off-road, and can be optioned up to carry as many as seven passengers. The engine choices include a 177kW/430Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel and a muscular 225kW/700Nm 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo diesel, both driving through an eight-speed auto gearbox. And, unusually these days, all variants are 4x4s, with no two-wheel-drive version in sight. Today's Discoverys, apart from a base coil-spring version, are all air-suspended and theres a full bag of electronic safety aids.
