Slightly bigger and therefore more accommodating than its predecessor, the Tucson is also more refined, and delivers decent on-road performance via an entry-level 121kW/203Nm (7.8L/100km) four-cylinder petrol, a feisty, equally-economical 130kW/265Nm 1.6-litre turbo-petrol or a 136kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel (6.4L/100km). There are three grades: The entry two-wheel drive Active X, the all-wheel drive Elite TLe and the top of the range Highlander TLe diesel. Road behaviour has benefitted so much from Australian design input that the Tucson challenges the top of the class.
