It gave the buying public exactly what it wanted: Primitive but unwieldy off-roaders didn't fit the bill, but the little Toyota did. Not so little any more, the RAV4 now fits into a mainstream comprising many SUVs that don't even have AWD. The RAV4 is more capacious and refined than ever and even adopted an optional 110kW/340Nm 2.2-litre diesel engine in 2013 to supplement the 107kW/187Nm 2.0-litre and 132kW/233Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engines. Auto and manual six-speed transmissions are available.
