Ford's big, muscular Ranger introduced new levels of all-round competence to the light-commercial market at its launch in 2011. It's tough, yet delivers an almost-car-like driving experience enhanced further with a 2015 update. The range covers ute and cab-chassis versions, as well as two and four-door cabs and is powered by either of two diesels: a 147kW/470Nm 3.2-litre five-cylinder, or an 118kW/385Nm 2.2-litre four-cylinder. Both offer the choice of six-speed manual or auto transmissions. A five-star ANCAP rating is helped along by six airbags (four in two-door models), as well as a full complement of electronic safety aids.
