This VW Multivan TDI340 Comfortline (2014) is the ultimate in functionality for moving 7 people in comfort, made easier with the power sliding-doors on both sides. The interior trim quality and driving experience is less van-like, and more on par with a VW sedan.
Unique to Multivan, the the full-length in-floor rail-system allows you to setup the rear of the van in any number of seating and cargo arrangements, from the standard 7 seats in 2-2-3 configuration, with all seats able to slide or recline, or be removed entirely. The middle-row "captain's chairs" can also swivel 180 degrees to face the rear bench. In this configuration the fold-out sliding and removable centre table provides a great 'mobile office' or dining setup. All rear seats can also be laid flat (or removed entirely) to provide a surface for overnight camping.
Powered by a gutsy and fuel-efficient 2.0 litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine (TDI340), it produces 103kW of power and 340Nm of torque. Combined with the 7-speed dual-clutch (DSG) automatic transmission, it gives you a cost efficient combined fuel economy of 8.2 litres per 100km, and enough power to maintain the speed limit on winding hilly freeways, even when fully loaded with 7 people, luggage and trailer in tow.
The climate control has 3-zones separately for driver, front passenger, and rear seats. The rear seat passengers have dedicated in-roof air vents and built-in sun blinds inside the sliding door windows. The sound system covers all occupants with an 8-speaker audio system and Bluetooth wireless input for music and phone calls. The tow-ball is rated for a braked towing capacity of 2,000kg.
The safety features include airbags for the driver, front passenger, side, and curtain airbags, along with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), brake assist, and hill holder features. Factory fitted features includes central locking, cruise control, cup holders, Bluetooth connectivity, power windows, USB audio input, 16" alloy wheels, and parking sensors all round to make parking the van a breeze.
The after-market additions include the tow-ball, reverse camera with monitor on rear-view mirror, mobile phone holder and rear door bicycle rack that can carry 4 bikes.

With a very well sorted interior layout - multi-talented in its adjustability due to the in-floor railing system - the sedan-like ride is all about luxury, with the Highline taking top equipment level honours. Safety is five ANCAP stars, and due to an ADR quirk you get sliding doors both sides, although this does preclude the factory motorhome option.
