Overview
Representing another re-emergence of the chic rear-wheel-drive sports car, the 86 (and it's twin, the BRZ Subaru) hits all its targets dead centre. Powered by a naturally aspirated boxer engine (Subaru with Toyota direct injection), it develops good power that's fully exploited by the well sorted, modified Impreza chassis. There are two models, the GT, with its pleasing starting price, and GTS with all its bells and whistles. Performance is better with the six-speed manual, but the six-speed auto is more fuel efficient. The big trump card is pricing. Even the GTS substantially undercuts most of the competition.
