In a way, Peugeot owns the 'CC' concept, having built its first hardtop coupe-convertible in 1934. The 308 CC Allure follows the 307 with a bit more of everything: space, safety, comfort and class. There's a 115kW/240Nm 1.6-litre petrol turbo and a 100kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbodiesel (both Euro V compliant) and, in the petrol model, the choice between a six-speed manual gearbox and a four-speed auto. The diesel is six-speed auto only. Both are relatively thrifty, clean (179g/km petrol and 185g/km diesel) and responsive to drive. The roof lifts or drops with alacrity and, top up, boot space is surprisingly good.
