The Patrol wears its long heritage proudly, and has a good reputation locally, but competes in a world that has moved on to sedan-like ride, handling, appointments and safety. The Y61 GU 9 Patrol range (including cab/chassis) is now powered by a 118kW/380Nm turbodiesel. In a market totally dominated by Toyota's Landcruiser, you'd hope that could be the 170kW/550Nm V6 turbodiesel of the Navara. There's the rub " the lack of market penetration restricts variety. The totally modern, much pricier Y62 model has arrived, enjoying large V8 power and much luxury, and now sells alongside the GU. We'll keep you posted.
