The LW Focus promises high passive and active safety levels in a strong, rigid and light package. MKII upgrades include added interface technologies for the second tier Trend (hatch or sedan) which runs a 125kW/202Nm, 6.6L/100km (previously 7.2) 2.0-litre petrol engine driving the front wheels (16-inch alloy) through a five-speed manual (hatch only) or dual-clutch six-speed auto (standard on sedan). Both boot and hatch space are generous, but there is the space-saver spare. With head, side and curtain airbags for all occupants, hill start assist and "Torque Vectoring Control" combined with ABS and stability control, it deserves its five ANCAP stars.
