The latest F30 3 Series had to be good - and it is, what with its ability to combine greater space, greater safety and mostly lower prices with lower fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. And BMW's delightful six-cylinder engines are largely replaced by a new generation of turbo fours that prove to be more efficient, more powerful and surprisingly refined. The essentially carryover 320d diesel produces 135kW/380Nm, with consumption reduced by 16 per cent (to 4.5L/100km) and emissions down 22g/km to 118g/km.
