Overview
The further we get away from the original Beetle, the more the New Beetle morphs into looking more like it, even though it's larger all round than the model it replaces. It's definitely a styling exercise, and an appeal to the unisex driver. Rear passenger room is still cramped for the larger/taller person, so it remains much more of a two-person car. Happily, boot capacity is now 310-litres, up from the previous 209. Performance is rather good from the turbo/supercharged 1.4-litre, with handling befitting a modern VW. The 1L has a reasonable range of upgrades available, while the Fender Edition includes most of them as standard.
