The best thing about Prius PHV is that it’s a Plug-in Hybrid, not just a standard Prius.
You can charge it at home, do your daily commute on pure electric power without using a drop of petrol. Even when the battery runs down, it switches to hybrid mode and still gets incredible fuel economy, It’s easily one of the cheapest cars to run on the road today. PHV Advantage: Plug it in for EV driving, use the petrol engine for long trips. No range anxiety.

Eight years and three generations on, the Prius delivers a sub 4.0L/100km fuel figure, comes in at a lower entry price and remains festooned with hi-tech goodness and gadgetry. The powertrain is a complete re-think of the original, doing away with engine driven ancillaries like the water pump, power steering an air conditioning, all now electrically driven. There are two electric motors - one to start the 1.8-litre petrol engine and charge the batteries - the other provides motive force either directly, or in combination with the engine via a CVT, as opposed to Honda's single electric motor solution.
