Overview
The Astra returns with its progenitor Opel badging - the last model being a Holden. There's a whole new larger chassis (shared with the Cruze, btw) and a turbocharged engine array - two petrol and a diesel mated to a six-speed manual or auto transmission. The three variants - five-door hatch or wagon and the range topping three-door GTC coupes, are well behaved, well equipped with plenty of option packages. All models garner five ANCAP stars. Ticks are given for rear passenger accommodation, accompanying luggage space adjustability (notably in the Sports Tourer), the three-mode, model dependant Flexride system and diesel stop-start system.
