Volkswagen is actively pursuing the Australian commercial van market and its base entrant is the Golf-based Caddy. The little four-door, front-drive van will tote up to 780kg with a maximum load volume of 3.2 cubic metres. It can be specified with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 63kW/160Nm, or a 75kW/250Nm 1.6-litre turbodiesel. The base Caddy comes only with a five-speed manual transmission, with a seven-speed DSG sequential manual optional in the turbo diesel. The two-seat Caddy van gets ABS/stability control, plus driver and passenger airbags. It can be optioned up with side airbags, and rear parking sensors.
