I am a fan of the R56 Cooper S. I specifically chose this car (a Cooper S produced between late 2010 and 2023) and refurbished it into a reliable driving machine.
I have driven this Mini Cooper S for 5 years and spent a lot of time maintaining and repairing it. I dare say it is one of the best-conditioned R56 Cooper S cars on the market.
To restore this car to its best condition, I have repaired/upgraded the following parts:
1. Thermostat (the most common issue, replaced twice. The first replacement was unsatisfactory, and the second time I replaced it with a racing thermostat that automatically opens at around 90 degrees coolant temperature)
2. Water pump
3. Engine head gasket (rebuilt the entire engine)
4. Cooper S-specific coolant
5. HPFP high-pressure fuel pump
6. Spark plugs
7. Fuel filter
8. Upgraded and repaired the computer board (one of the biggest hidden problems of the R56).

Competing against Audi's A1, Citroen's DS3 and Alfa's Mito, the MINI Cooper S moves forward with its 135kW/240Nm powerplant. Exterior changes have added almost 100mm to the freshened-up nose (to comply with Euro pedestrian safety regulations), and rearward the new LED brake lights grow brighter as brake pedal pressure increases. New alloy wheel designs come in 15, 16 and 17-inch. Inside, audio controls are now laid out conventionally for more intuitive use. There are auto headlights, foglights, rain sensing wipers and velour floor mats. Underpinnings remain basically the same, for that inspirational MINI ride.
