- Leather interior good, driver’s seat shows its age, dash with cracks. New headliner about three years ago (a common replacement item on these vehicles).

In SE form, the Freelander comes with three engine configurations -two diesels, the TD4 and SD4 (which adds an extra 30kW, but torque and economy figures are quoted as the same) and the 3.2-litre in-line petrol six. They're all mated to the 'SportsAuto' transmission. The diesels can now operate on ten-percent bio-diesel (previously five-percent) and have received modifications designed to reduce engine noise, vibration and harshness. Other exterior and interior upgrades are intended to impart an up-market feel to the vehicle, thus positioning it above its Asian and European SUV rivals.
