Techno-laden and noticeably bigger inside, the super-refined 5 Series comes with five engine options: 135kW/380Nm 520d four-cylinder and (astonishingly swift) 220kW/600Nm 535d six-cylinder turbodiesels, 190kW/310Nm 528i inline six-cylinder, 225kW/400Nm 535i six-cylinder turbo and 300kW/600Nm 550i V8. Eight-speed auto transmissions are the rule and the range of options is breathtaking.
