Ford's Escape SUV has long been familiar as the non-identical twin of Mazda's Tribute. The Ford was given a mid-life upgrade in mid 2006, bringing more aggressive styling and noticeable improvements to refinement. But the formula remained the same: on-demand 4WD, good road manners and a well packaged interior. Today there's just one Escape -- the 2.3-litre four-cylinder version that goes about its task with aplomb, steering well, riding smoothly and offering a reasonable serve of performance through its 109kW/199Nm engine and four-speed auto gearbox. Equipment includes front and front side airbags, ABS braking, cruise control and automatic climate control.
