Premiering at the 2009 Frankfurt Motorshow, the 458 Italia was an anticipated event after the success of the F430 with its all new, yet familiar design cues inspired from the great Ferrari Enzo and technologies utilized from the company’s experience in Formula 1.
At the heart is the traditional Ferrari mid-mounted 4.5 litre V8 producing 562HP to the rear wheels sending the driver from 0 to 100 km/h in just under 3.4 seconds thanks to its subsonic 7 Speed dual-clutch transmission.
In the suspension the 458 features double wishbones at the front and a multi-link set up at the rear, coupled with E-Diff, F1-Trac traction control systems and Carbon Ceramic Brakes as standard.
The cars exterior styling and features were designed for aerodynamic efficiency utilizing active aerodynamics in the front grille - deformable winglets that lower at high speeds to reduce drag.
Possibly the most uncompromising and prettiest stature Ferrari have produced over the recent years, along with its euphoric V8 and F1 pedigree, the 458 Italia is an athlete, a model and a singer.
Upon selecting "Race" and moving up through the revs you are engulfed with that goose bump giving shrill staccato wail that will encourage full-bore downshifts when and wherever possible, the soundtrack is pure symphonic.
The driver focused cockpit has you engaged and tucked into a tight yet comfortable race position as you stare up at the great big yellow tachometer indicating the redline at 9,000RPM, whilst gripping the Leather F1 style sports steering wheel which famously features most of the driving functions; indicators, wipers, driver modes and a big red ‘Start Button’ to initiate the bellowing V8.
