Overview
Volkswagen is actively pursuing the Australian commercial van market and its base entrant is the Golf-based Caddy. The little three-door, front-drive van will tote up to 730kg with a maximum load volume of 3.2 cubic metres. It can be specified with a 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 75kW and 148Nm, or a 77kW/250Nm 1.9-litre turbodiesel. The base Caddy comes only with a five-speed manual transmission, with a six-speed DSG sequential manual optional in the turbodiesel. The two-seat Caddy van gets ABS braking, but comes only with a driver's airbag. It can be optioned up with passenger and side airbags, and stability control.
