Recognising early that many people buying primitive 4WDs didn't really need or want the ability to go deep into the bush, Toyota developed with the first RAV4 a 4WD that drove like a regular road car, but had a touch of high-riding off-road style. The little SUV has since become a handy, five-door family wagon that does all the first one did, with more comfort and space, as well as the choice of a 125kW 2.4-litre four-cylinder or a 201kW 3.5-litre V6.
