Overview
Mazda's workhorse ute range is diesel-only - no bad thing in this market segment. The one-tonne-plus Mazda BT50 range embraces 2.5 and 3.0-litre four-cylinder engines and there are 2WD and 4WD variants in cab-chassis or ute form with three body styles: a Freestyle cab with two rear-hinged back doors, a regular four-door crew cab, or a cab-chassis-only single-cab two door. All but the 4WD DX cab-chassis come with dual airbags and ABS, while the upmarket SDX versions get side airbags, 16-inch alloys and six-speaker CD audio. The 3.0-litre turbo diesel four produces 115kW and 380Nm, with five-speed manual or auto transmission.
