The eight-generation, Thai-built upper-level Honda Accord is much bigger than you'd expect -- challenging Commodore and Falcon -- more edgy in its styling and meticulously put together. Add a punchy 202kW/339Nm 3.5-litre V6 that shuts down unneeded cylinders to boost economy and a zippy 133kW/222Nm 2.4-litre four-cylinder, and the big Accord has a lot going for it. Both use a smooth five-speed sequential auto with Honda's hill-sensing Grade Logic system. From base VTi four-cylinder, standard Accord gear includes stability and traction control, dual front and front side airbags, active front head restraints, alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control and six-speaker, six-CD audio.
