Thought Audi's substituting of a 4.2-litre V8 with a 3.0-litre V6 in its latest S4 was a wimp out? Hardly. No ordinary V6, the engine uses a supercharger to out-torque the V8 (but with slightly less power), bringing faster acceleration and a 24 per cent improvement in fuel economy. The seven-speed S tronic S4 gets to 100km/h in 5.3 seconds (5.8 for the old V8 auto). With its full-time all wheel drive this is a decidedly mean sedan. It comes with the works: sports suspension, 18-inch alloys, Xenon headlights, keyless entry and climate control - to name a few.
