Obsidian Black 2006 SL55 AMG with Thulite Red interior – an outstanding example with low original kms
I am relocating overseas and so my “black beauty” is reluctantly offered up for sale.
This Australian new vehicle is in outstanding condition for its age, as the photos and videos should show. You cannot beat the colour combination - the sparkling metallic black exterior and the stunning thulite red interior just pops. No boring grey or beige here, and it isn’t that gawdy bright red colour either (“flame opal”).
Nice 19” AMG wheels (with plenty of tyre tread on all four corners).
The car has a good service history and has just been serviced, it has had any and all repair work completed as soon as any issue occurred, is completely stock and unmolested, and has no mechanical or electrical issues - she’s ready to drive away and enjoy.
And enjoy it is what you will do - this is the last of the true AMG engines, completely over-engineered, eternally reliable (starts first time every time) and making almost 500 bhp, the M113K supercharged 5.4L V8 is the absolute pinnacle of Mercedes ICE engineering. It is calm and docile in traffic, great for a slow cruise with the top down (so you can hear that hypnotic V8 burble), but an absolute snarling monster when you put your foot down. As some say, it sounds like Satan gargling on a tequila.
The M113K engine also powered the legendary McLaren Mercedes SLR in a much higher state of tune. In the SL55, the engine barely breaks a sweat, even under load, and the way it delivers the power is just so smooth and relentless. The five-speed transmission is also a famed paragon of reliability, often sitting behind similar aged Porsche 911 turbo engines, and I have recently had the transmission fully serviced too, even though it is allegedly not required.
The car has just over 56,000 kms on the clock, so it’s easily going to last another 20 years.
If you have done your research on these cars, you may have found some slightly adverse commentary about the early cars (2002 - 2003), as is fairly usual for first editions, but by 2006 these issues had been fully addressed at the factory.
As you can probably tell, I absolutely love this car, and I might actually shed a tear when the new owner drives off.
The vehicle is in a professional, secure storage facility near Moorabbin airport, and any viewing will be there.
Please, no test pilots, serious enquiries only. I will need to accompany you on any test drive, and you will also need to convince me you have a clean license and the means to pay for the car.
Asking price is $92,500
No silly offers thanks and no offers via text message. The only offers I will respond to are ones you make to me in person when you’re standing in front of the car.
I have maintained agreed value comprehensive motor insurance with Enthusiast Motor since 2022 for a sum insured of $119,000 – which is what I paid for it 4 years ago.
