My mother-in-law is looking to sell her Ford Territory. She has owned the car since new, purchasing in Bega, NSW before relocating to Canberra with the car circa 2012. I've known the car since around 2016. The car has been very reliable, well maintained, has no accident/wovr history and has a tow bar, a bullbar and a pair of spotties.
The car:
2006 SY TS 5 seater AWD turbo, 6 speed auto, 266k km. Registered to July 2026 with ACT roadworthy certificate pending 2x new tyres. It has the 4.0 litre turbo 'barra' 6 cylinder engine, renowned for being a strong engine.
Other than regular maintenance, things which have been addressed over recent years include:
- the usual suspension work which all Territory's need. This should see the vehicle driving safely on the road for many years to come.
- roof re-lined after it started sagging
- ignition barrel replaced (another common issue with these cars)
- new right front driveshaft and CVs
- new tailshaft centre bearing, uni joint and coupling (another common issue)
The only real negatives are that the paint is a bit faded on the bonnet and roof, the clear coat is peeling on the plastic panel below the rear glass and the struts on the rear glass no longer hold reliably (sometimes they do and sometimes they don't depending on temperature and incline).
