The Smart Roadster (W452) is a two-door, two-seater rear/mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive sports car, inspired by the British roadsters of the 60s. First introduced in 2002 by Smart GmbH, it was designed by a consortium between Germany (Mercedes-Benz), Switzerland (Swatch), and France. Only 43,091 units were produced before the model was discontinued in 2005.
The Roadster has a turbocharged 698cc 3-cylinder Suprex engine in the rear, which was engineered by Mercedes-Benz. This Roadster has an electrical soft-top and detachable side-bars for the full 'top-off' effect. Weighing as little as 790 kg, the Roadster was intended to provide the emotion of driving a sports car at an affordable cost.
This vehicle has travelled only 166,000 km since its March 2004 build and has been painstakingly restored by the current owner. Body & paintwork are excellent, and interior trim has been refurbished and a new steering wheel and cover fitted. New carbon fibre headlight surrounds enhance its looks. New brake cylinders, coil over shocks, wheel spacers and tyres have been fitted to improve handling. It has always been garaged by the current owner and all recent records of service and maintenance are available.
While being eminently drivable, the car still requires some work, but time and changing circumstances have required its reluctant sale. It would suit an enthusiast who is keen to take on a project that, with minimal further outlay, will give them a unique vehicle that offers fantastic driving pleasure coupled with a fuel-efficient engine in an eye-catching neat package.
