Reluctant sale of what has genuinely been the best car I’ve ever owned. This Patrol was always meant to be my forever touring setup, but after relocating interstate for work we’ve had to downsize.
I’m only the second owner. The original owner purchased the vehicle brand new in his 90s and maintained it meticulously, servicing it every 7,000km and filling two full service history books. I purchased the car at 180,000km and have continued to keep servicing completely up to date.
The goal with this build was to keep the vehicle as original and reliable as possible while slowly upgrading it into a capable touring setup. Outside of the modifications listed below, the vehicle remains completely original and fitted with genuine Nissan parts.

The car runs and drives exceptionally well and has been extremely reliable. It has mainly done small camping trips and was never used for 4WDing. In fact, the previous owner never even took it on a gravel road. It’s been my daily driver for the last two years and has never missed a beat.
For its age, the condition is excellent. Like any 20+ year old vehicle it has a few small dings and scratches, but overall presents very well.
To be completely upfront, the only known issue is the temperature gauge sensor, which occasionally reads incorrectly. The vehicle itself has never run hot or had overheating issues whatsoever. It has comfortably completed long drives including trips over Mt Hotham, a return trip to Sydney, and a 45-minute commute each way to work every day without a single issue. I’m also happy to have the sensor replaced prior to purchase if preferred.
For a roadworthy, it will also need a new set of tyres, they are still the same tyres as when I purchased the vehicle, coming up on 80,000km. Old school AT Mickey Thompson's, dont make them like that anymore. I am no longer in the same state as the car so organising a road worthy myself will be basically impossible, and the car has been left with family for viewing and sale of the vehicle.
The back left plastic wheel flare clips had become loose, so I removed the flare and will be replacing it with a brand new one.
If you’re looking for a well-maintained GU Patrol that hasn’t been thrashed and already has the right touring upgrades done, this is a very tidy example and is a unicorn for this type of vehicle.
