Regretfully selling my 2004 E55 AMG — a supercharged 5.5L V8 powerhouse that has been through a lot, but has finally been brought back to life as a strong, reliable weekend cruiser. Being completely upfront and transparent to avoid any misrepresentation, especially after my own experience with a previous seller.
This is not a factory-original time capsule. The car has had two known previous owners and, before my ownership, it went through some heavy performance modifications by previous owner that reduced reliability and required major engine repairs. The car was previously in SA, where it had a front end collision but was professionally repaired.
When I bought the car, it was claimed to be making 400rwkw, and came with:
Killer Chiller setup
Fixed/clutchless supercharger pulley
Methanol injection
Boost gauges
RaceIQ Stage 2 ECU tune, which was running poorly
Rough idling, misfires
Damaged intercooling system
Unverified service books
Plus numerous other issues that were not disclosed
Since purchase, I’ve spent over $30,000 bringing this E55 back to dependable condition, covering the engine, supercharger, transmission, air suspension, and general maintenance.
All credit to the specialist E55 workshop that undertook this job, for which I am grateful. This turned out to be a bigger job than expected, which the workshop never had to accept. This car was restored over time with the common passion this workshop and I have for these cars that deserve to be driven & seen on the road.
Current Condition - The car now drives beautifully and is mechanically sound to my knowledge. It’s been returned to a mostly stock-like setup, focusing on reliability rather than chasing more power. Unless you plan to take this car to the track for drag racing, you will not need any more power.

Replacement of heads, rocker covers, cams and the bottom end of the engine with a second-hand bottom end with low Ks
Short headers (shorty)
Split cooling
SLR TCU tune with custom agility mode (A) - firm gear shifts
Stock ECU (RaceIQ Stage 2 removed),
Clutched supercharger pulley
Killer chiller, meth kit, and other high-performance mods removed
All intercooling components fixed
Boost gauges removed

These cars are already monsters in their factory form, the ultimate sleepers with unsuspecting 350kw/700nm under the hood, and this one is now set up to be enjoyed as a reliable cruiser, with all the maintenance work done for reliability and longevity.
The motor and transmission on these cars are very reliable if they are not heavily modified. (Common to see these cars doing 400,000 kms + in their stock-like form).
The asking price includes a Roadworthy Certificate, or I will consider a lower price if purchased as-is without an RWC (saves me the hassle of organising it).
