The time has come and after more than 12 years I am selling my car as my family is growing and RX-8 while a lot if things is not a family car. It is also not a perfect first car, especially the manual one, whoever tells you the opposite is desperate to sell it and probably should not be trusted. By now you probably figured out that I’m not that eager to sell it but here’s what you need to know about this car:
Pros:
• Drives like a charm, pure joy
• Is in a really good condition considering the amount of Km’s it done
• Has the original engine and does not need a rebuild (if you know a thing or two about rotary cars you’d appreciate how I taken care of this one)
• Has reinforced sports clutch and few minor aftermarket parts, but no major rebuilds
• It is pretty much a vintage car and should appreciate in price in the next 10 years (lookup the Rx-7 prices
• Is more spacious than it looks
• Has a rotary engine that is not noisy at all
• 2 din Clarion unit and a Metra kit
• Original BOSE dynamics
• Original FE1 leather trim
• Spark plugs changed in December 2023
• Short transmission (which is a negative if you are new to driving manual)
• Has new accumulator claps installed in December 2023
• The car has no finance on it and was never written off
Cons:
• Paintwork has few scratches (on pictures) and does need a touch up
• Radiator is on its way out according to the last service (December 2023) and has 6-12 months in it. I have bought the hoses already (will include them with the car)
• Has been in a minor accident where the front right wing and headlight were replaced
• Cold start is a bit delayed now and the car is due an engine flush/decarb
• RX8s need to be redlined every now and then to burn carbon build up
• Given that this is a rotary engine you can’t just repark the car and go, you’ll need to let it run for about 5 minutes
• Interior leather has some wear and tear damage (scratches and fades but nothing major)
• RX8 need oil top-ups and you will need to monitor this
• Has a dead radiator sensor
• Often provokes other drivers to just cut in front of you
All in all, this is a great joy ride and can be your everyday ride as long as you take proper care of it. I am the third owner of this car, but unfortunately lost most of the paperwork in the recent move. I originally bought the car in SA in late 2011 from the second owner, moved it to NSW and then in 2017 to Victoria (this when I lost some staff during the move). Car had a major service post Covid as I did not drive it at Mazda service centre and was noted as being in great condition but I would urge you to find a rotary mechanic close to you as the service centre charges an arm and a leg and always tries to sell you original RX8 parts which they need to order from Japan and blah blah blah, just buy aftermarket, you are not loosing on quality (sometimes the opposite) and only saving in money.
