Selling my lovely 2004 ex-postie Transit.
Mostly used as a work vehicle - but have it fitted out as a basic camper (I work in festivals - so it has been perfect for this). Works really well as a secret camper as it looks like a tradie van, but is fairly comfortable (but small) inside.
I got a new work vehicle, so selling this on.
The Basics:
- Ford Transit 2004 VH (or MK6 for uk info)
- 2.4lt turbo diesel, RWD
- 5 speed manual
- <329,000kms (averages out to less than 15,000kms a year).
- serviced regularly in the last 5.5 years while I have owned it.
- Rego up to November 2026
- new tires and rebalance 1.5 years ago.
- RWC to be discussed before purchase, my mechanic has said it'll fly through.
- terrible black paint is fault of previous owner - more on that below.
Recent work done:
- reconditioned aircon system (New Electric Fan, pressure test).
- Refurbished gear box, brand new clutch (2025).
- Manual conversion (2022). (to remove the horrendous hydraulic semi-auto these were built with)
- Cabin has been isolated from cargo area for more efficient Air Con.
- 3x Rhino Rack trade roof racks (2.1m height includes these)
- 2.5m x2.5m Kings awning on passenger side
Other/extras:
- Sony XAV-aAX3200 head unit - bluetooth and all that modern stuff.
- door speakers upgraded to Kenwood
- original speakers installed in custom boxes above seat headrest
- Wireless CarPlay unit connected - not android compatible (but you can swap this out - or connect directly for Android Auto)
- Reverse camera
- all internal lights converted to LED's
- Dual battery set up with solar and alternator smart switch. (mostly used for running a little fridge, some LED's, roof fan and recharding devices. works well).
Van Fit out includes**:
- overhead reversable fan/exhaust fan. wind up hatch for airflow when camping.
- Overhead cupboard with latch
- Large shelves for up to 3 plastic tubs (with edging so they don't slide about)
- Fold down bed/bench - can be used as bench seat, single bed or folded out to 1400 wide (fit double swag mattress which I'm happy to include in purchase if wanted - retailed for $450 a couple years back)
- A variety of shelves and a small cupboard - were built for specific tool boxes, but I have still found them quite useful generally.
- basic insulation over most internal windows which help with privacy.
- basic control panel for internal lighting, 12v plug and 2x USB A inputs.
**most of this can be left in, or removed if not wanted
This was a postie van first off - has 2.5t capacity, and with the barn doors you can put a pallet straight into the back - it feels like its raised, but it must just be how these vans were built. It’s overall height is average for most Vans - 2.1m including the roof racks (I have driven it into car parks with 2.1m height restriction with no issues.
Paint - it was a postie van, so original paint is RED. The previous owner must have had their uncle paint it black, so they cut every corner possible, no preparation or care. Because of this you can see little bits of the red coming through, I’ve considered getting it fixed, but the cost is simply not worth it.
