2003 Porsche 996 Carrera 4S Tiptronic,
If you are looking to enter the Porsche 911 market then this car is an excellent entry point. You are probably aware that the C4S shares many components with the top of the line road car, the 911 Turbo. Aside from the turbocharged engine and associated hardware, these two cars are virtually identical. The C4S has the turbo wide body, chassis running gear, braking system and handling characteristics.
The Mercedes Benz manufactured Tiptronic gearbox is a surprise. Unlike auto gearboxes of old, it is well matched to the performance characteristics of the C4S.
This car was delivered by Porsche Centre Gold Coast in 2003 and has now travelled approximately 179,700 kms. The engine was replaced by Porsche in 2009 with a new, 2005 engine (verified by Porsche Cars Australia). The good news is the 2005 engine has the latest, most robust, IMS bearing which has a very good record of reliability.
To monitor the health of the engine, at its last oil change I had a sample of the oil analysed by Autosphere (www.autosphere.com.au) in Melbourne, who reported that the oil was in good condition with no unexpected particles found. This report is available to prospective buyers.
