If you’ve been waiting for a proper, usable Porsche that still feels special every time you turn the key, this factory manual Porsche Boxster (986) is a brilliant place to start. Finished in the rare and timeless shade of Glacier White, it presents as a tidy, original and clearly loved example, with the kind of ownership profile you want to see and a documented service history to back it up.
The 986 is the car that rewrote the "entry Porsche" rulebook, because it delivers much more of an authentic Porsche experience then the earlier front engine attempts to move the brand away from its reliance upon the 911. If you love Porsches, this is a great way to enter the marque without the "badge tax" so often seen on some of the brands other sports models.
With the engine mounted behind you, the Boxster has a naturally neutral balance and steering feel that makes ordinary roads feel alive, and this one drives every bit as nicely as many of the super-low km examples we’ve sold. The performance is still properly quick for a lightweight roadster, with the early 2.5L flat-six producing around 150 kW and 245 Nm, a 0–100 km/h time in the high sixes, and a top speed around 240 km/h, all delivered with that classic flat-six note sitting right behind your shoulders. If you hold it up to a 911 it’s going to feel a little slower, but otherwise the Boxster is very much the king of convertibles in its era.
This is also a car you can enjoy without constant excuses. All electrics work as they should, including the roof, and it has a genuinely desirable factory option for an early car: heated seats. It’s the sort of detail you don’t think you need until the first crisp morning drive, then suddenly it becomes non-negotiable.
A quick note for buyers doing their homework: as an early iteration 986, this car uses the dual-row IMS bearing which is generally regarded as lower risk than the later single-row design. Accordingly, the IMS bearing has not been replaced. For peace of mind, we have had the car mechanically checked by a Porsche technician with a clean bill of health, and we can provide this report to genuine buyers.
