The car you've always wanted: the classic e30 coupe fully rebuilt to stock specs, with no further work (and expense) required. Mechanically impeccable condition after a fastidious rebuild, taking over a year, by Paul and Mark, owners of early-model BMW specialists MP Autohaus One at Taren Point (Sydney). This pet project undertaken with their late father exhibits exemplary attention to detail and their unparalleled knowledge of the e30.
This is one of the best examples in Australia of a late model e30, and particularly of the rare 'baby M3' in the 318is. An absolute pleasure to drive with a sweet power-to-weight ratio, great balance, beautiful but not overpowering exhaust note, understated and authentic looks, including dual-colour reconditioned 15" wheels. If you intend to buy and pimp her up, read no further.
This turnkey unit has been purpose re-built to mirror the original condition of the original car. You can certainly pay less but you will spend time and money maintaining - none required here. Given the condition, she will be as much an appreciating investment as a rewarding and engaging drive.
Aesthetically, she is in excellent condition with full re-upholstering back to the original tartan seats, no rust, no roof sag, no sun damage - including the dash (sun cover included) and everything in working order. Some say the perfect e30 is imperfect, and akin to this she has markings on the paint from a previous life and some very minor dings (which I intend to have removed). The sound system is yet to be properly connected but the car comes with a few stereo unit options, including BMW original.
The only non-stock modifications are improved suspension (Bilstein shocks; H&R springs) and the subtle enhancing via genuine M badging on front, M gear-knob and M steering wheel. For the more mechanically astute, other work completed includes all bushes replaced, sports stainless steel exhaust fitted, aluminium lightweight flywheel and sports clutch installed and all front & rear brakes, brake lines and discs replaced.
A full catalogue of the rebuild is available for inspection, along with log books and service history. Paul and Mark can proudly walk you through (and under) the car - and provide written proof - to step you through the work done.
I've had the car since soon after the rebuild over two years ago and have put ~5,000 joyous kms on her, mainly with dreamy coastal and country drives. I've had my fun and while I recognise it will be a good longer term investment (with dividends being the driving experience and acknowledgements from discerning enthusiasts) it's time to move on to my next classic.
